The Issue

In Uganda, women smallholder farmers make up a significant part of the agricultural workforce, yet many continue to face barriers that limit their productivity and economic opportunities. Limited access to quality seeds and essential agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and crop-protection products makes it difficult for farmers to achieve good yields, while limited access to practical agricultural training can contribute to poor farming practices and post-harvest losses. Access to affordable financing is also a major challenge, as traditional financial institutions often require collateral and guarantees that many rural women cannot provide. As a result, farmers remain trapped in cycles of low productivity, low incomes, and economic vulnerability.

Edu Call Uganda addresses this gap through our Farm Input Financing & Grow Program, which provides women farmers with quality agricultural inputs at the beginning of the farming season, combined with practical training, ongoing farm support, and market access. By financing inputs upfront and recovering their value through an agreed portion of the harvest, we enable women farmers to invest in their farms, increase productivity, improve incomes, and build more sustainable livelihoods.
